The "Women's" section of clothing stores, sometimes means the plus sized section, so if you're a medium in misses, you probably won't be able to find anything in that section. If you're in a store where "Women's" doesn't mean plus-sized, then the clothes will usually still be sized bigger, so you might be a small instead of a medium.
I would suggest just trying on whatever you find that's cute, the size on the tag usually lies anyway. For instance, I'm usually a size 8 in misses, but for some brands of clothes I'm a size 4, and sometimes in other brands size 12 fits me.
If you are in a situation where you can't try things on, like if you're shopping online, I would look for the clothing brand's sizing chart, so you can compare your bust waist and hip measurements, and see what size you are according to that brand.
