What are some good options for skirts, dresses and just basic styles for someone plus sized with wide hips?

One of your best assets is the fact you have a pretty waist. Don't lose it! So if you are wearing longer jackets or sweaters, remember to leave them open and layered over something that is belted or more form fitting. Lose your waist and you will look twice as big as you actually are.

Pear shapes usually have more modest bust lines and shoulder widths, so in order to visually balance your bottom half you'll want to wear colors, patterns and cuts that emphasize your top and minimize your bottom. A-line skirts that finish at or just past the knee are fabulous paired with wide open neck lines like scoop, sweetheart and v-necks. Add accessories to further draw the eye upward like chunky necklaces, chandelier earrings or scarves. Cotton dresses with fitted wrap style bodices and fuller skirts (think Marilyn Monroe) are particularly flattering on your figure type, although depending on the size descrepancy between your top and bottom you may need to have the bodice tweaked and tailored for the perfect fit.
