We have found that it is quite normal for people to grab any larger size apparel they come across, simply because of excitement from finally finding something that fits them. However, it’s important that you keep some points in mind when choosing your attire so that you look good when wearing it.   Below are a few suggestions to keep you on the right track:

#1. The first thing to do is to determine your body shape.   There are 4 basic Plus Size Body Shapes…Pear, Apple, Hourglass and Rectangular. Knowing your body type and how to dress it will help you look and feel your best and will get you the most from your fashion dollar. So, no more fashion mistakes!  When you know what styles you love and which ones flatter your body and make you look & feel attractive, you can easily build a wardrobe and shopping online is much easier!

Womens Body Shapes:

#2. When choosing your outerwear, make sure that you dress for both style and comfort.  There are many plus size formal gowns and dresses found in different types of materials like satin to matte jersey.  However all of these dresses have a touch of Spandex to provide comfort in the dress.   Then of course, there are sequins and semi precious stones added for the finishing touch.

Hint: A winner in plus size formal dresses is the empire waist or A-line style which is a slimming design that works well on a long formal gown or short plus size black dress. If you have fat upper arms, a wrap or shrug is a great means of concealing upper arms as it not only keeps your shoulders warm on chilly evenings but also gives a royal touch to plus size formal gowns. When selecting your plus size outerwear, it’s important that you choose complementary accessories and hairstyle’s for it too. Choose a good handbag, jewelry and shoes to complement your attire.  There is no point in choosing a wonderful plus size formal dress, and wear jewelry or shoes that don’t blend with each other.

#3. It is better to avoid shiny dresses (it only adds pounds to your look).  Never buy apparel that is too small for you!  Instead buy something that is loose and makes you feel comfortable. plus size dresses look better in than let out.  Choose black, it looks elegant and is one color in plus size dresses that flatters the figure.

Hint: If you are too tall for a plus size cocktail dress, but are obese, it is better to buy a cocktail dress with a low waistline (an A-line dress with an open neckline makes you look more appealing).

#4. And finally…When ordering your plus size dress online, make sure of your size. Measure yourself, including your bust, waist, hips and in seam to ensure you order the right sized dress.  Make sure that the tape is left loose so that the dress is not too tight.  If you are an in between size, order the next size and not the smaller one.  This would be especially important if you are ordering a wedding dress or a wedding guest dress .  Same would apply if you’re a wedding dress designer.

In today’s society you find that  plus size clothing can range from the elegant formal dress to the simple house dress.  You are able tuck in all the bumps that you wish to tuck, while showing off the bumps that you want to be shown.  In fact, the variety in plus size dresses is limitless, regardless of your age.
